Eckington students celebrate GCSE results

There was excitement on Thursday 22 August as Year 11 students at Eckington School opened their GCSE and Level 2 vocational qualification results.

Collectively, Eckington’s 228 Year 11 students sat exams in a total of 26 different subjects in subjects as diverse as geography, photography, German, health and fitness, and music. The school’s results in the highest grades show particular improvement. This has been demonstrated in particular by one Eckington student who is celebrating having bagged nine GCSEs at the very highest grade 9; they are joined by two more students to have achieved seven grade 9s and two 8s; and four grade 9s, four grade 8s and two 7s.

Many of the students now embark on the next stage in their educational journey at Eckington Sixth Form, and the school looks forward to welcoming them to their dedicated sixth form facility in September.

Headteacher, Richard Cronin, said: "The Eckington staff and I are proud of our Year 11 students, who have worked hard to obtain these qualifications. They have done a great job, applying themselves in lessons and accepting the additional support offered by their teachers. The diverse range of subjects – in both GCSE and vocational areas - offered at Eckington has given our students the opportunity to follow their individual interests and learning styles.

"We look forward to welcoming many of them back in September, when they will join Eckington Sixth Form to continue to build their futures, and that of our school. Wherever they choose to continue their journey, we wish them well and look forward to hearing of their future successes."
