Topics
Paper 1 - Russia in the age of absolutism and enlightenment
This is the story of how Russia became a major power. Under Peter the Great, Russia emerged from a barbaric semi-civilised state and was re-shaped into a western European power. By the end of the 18th century, Russia was able to take on and defeat the superpower of the age: France.
Paper 2 - the English revolution 1625-1660
This is the story of how England changed the world. When parliament executed King Charles I, it didn’t just end the life of a man: it dealt a fatal blow to the idea that God chooses the rulers of a country. This action was directly responsible for the emergence of modern democracies.
Historical enquiry
This is a piece of research work which may be done on a variety of topics.
